13.1 & 13.2 RESTORING DAMAGED FILES
--------------------------------------
If BookHound crashes or freezes:
1. Reboot (restart) your computer before relaunching BookHound
2. A consistency check will run automatically on relaunch — this takes a few
minutes and is normal; BookHound will function normally afterward
If your "data" file is reported as damaged:
1. Exit BookHound immediately
2. Attempt file recovery:
On Windows:
Hold Ctrl + Shift while double-clicking the BookHound application icon
(or shortcut)
On Mac:
Hold Option + Command while double-clicking the BookHound application icon
(or alias)
3. Keep keys held until you see the "open damaged file" dialog box, then release
4. Locate the damaged "data" file inside your BookHound 8 folder and double-click it
5. The recovery process begins (may take several minutes for large databases)
6. When complete, click OK, then cancel any remaining dialogs
7. BookHound should now open normally
If recovery fails (rare — may indicate structural damage from OS or software issues):
1. Insert your backup disk
2. Copy the "data" file from the backup into your BookHound 8 folder
3. Choose to replace the existing damaged file when prompted
If you back up consistently, you will only lose work done since your last backup.
